New bus route added to increase student safety
Starting February 1, 2024, a new bus route will be added for High School and Innovation Center students who, in the past, have ridden the bus to the Mid-Level Campus and then walked home. These students will have a new bus route. This route is being developed and is currently under review based on student addresses. The bus will leave the High School to pick up the Innovation Center walking students and then complete the new route. These students will no longer be dropped-off at the Mid-Level Campus. This will reduce the number of students at the Mid-Level Campus after school and improve student safety. This is only affecting the afternoon as morning transportation will remain the same.
High School Walkers
High School students who have previously been riding the shuttle buses to the Mid-level Campus in the afternoons and then walking home will now board a bus with assigned stops; dropping them off closer to their home destination. These destinations will be located within the district designated safe walking area. Parents will need to sign their rider up for this bus no later than January 24, 2024 by calling the Transportation office at 509-972-5590 or in Spanish at 509-972-5875. Walkers will no longer ride a shuttle bus down to the Mid-level Campus. At the high school the walkers new bus route will be parked in “Slot W” in the afternoons only.
Innovation Center Walkers
Innovation Center students who have previously been riding the shuttle buses to the Mid-level Campus in the afternoons and then walking home will now board on a bus with assigned stops; dropping them closer to their home destination within the district designated safe walking area. Parents will need to sign their rider up for this bus, no later than January 24, 2024 by calling the Transportation office at 509-972-5590 or in Spanish at 509-972-5875. Walkers will no longer ride a shuttle bus down to the Mid-level Campus in the afternoons.
High School Bus Riders
Bus riders will no longer “shuttle” down to the Mid-Level Campus. Bus riders will now load their regular route bus at the high school to go home. Their route bus will be parked in the same letter slot at the high school that it is parked in at the Mid-level Campus. Once they board their regular route home, they will not be allowed to get off at the Mid-level Campus.
Innovation Center Bus Riders
No change for these bus riders as they will continue to board the two buses that shuttle them down to the Mid-Level Campus. Once they arrive at the Mid-Level Campus they will immediately board their bus home.
Parent/Employee parking in the High School bus loop area
People parking in the Parent/Employee parking along the new bus loop at the high school will need to remain parked during the loading process and until the buses pull out of the bus loop in the afternoons.
All High School & Innovation Center students
High school students and Innovation Center students will no longer be allowed to board a bus at the Mid-Level Campus in the afternoons unless they are the bus rider’s that have been shuttled down from the Innovation Center.
