Evelin Severino serves as legislative page
Evelin Severino, a junior at the West Valley Innovation Center, had the honor to serve as a legislative page for Representative Gina Mosbrucker during the recent legislative session. She was joined by Sora McPherson who attends Davis High School in Yakima.
As pages, Sora and Evelin were responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings, and the House Chamber during floor sessions. During their week in Olympia, they also participated in legislative ceremonies and attended Page School, learning about the Legislature's role, its process, and its participants.
Reflecting on her experience, Evelin said, “I really enjoyed learning about the legislative process and how a bill becomes a law. I would encourage other students to learn about how to become a page. It was fun!"
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14 and 17. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission from their parents and school.
