STEM Robotics
STEM Robotics
Ever wonder how code can bring machines to life?
In our STEM Robotics program, students move from basic blocks to complex automation. This pathway teaches you how to think logically, solve problems through code, and build machines that can interact with the world around them. Whether you want to design the next generation of smart technology or enter the high-tech manufacturing field, this program is your starting point.
Your Future in Motion
By starting with VEX and LEGO in 7th grade, you build the logical foundation needed to command industrial robots and aircraft systems by the time you graduate. Our students leave ready to excel in computer science, mechanical engineering, or the high-tech aerospace workforce.
Grades 7–9: Robotic & Coding Foundations * Chris Rude
Students focus on the fundamentals of mechanical design and software logic. The goal is to turn students from technology users into technology creators through hands-on play and professional tools.
What Students Learn
- Robotics Platforms: Gain experience with both LEGO and VEX robotics systems to understand different styles of engineering.
- Coding Languages: Learn the logic behind the machines, moving from block-based coding to text-based languages.
- Simple Machine Operation: Understand how mechanical parts like gears, pulleys, and levers work together to create movement.
- Rapid Prototyping: Learn how to use 3D printers and laser cutters to create custom parts for your robotic builds.
Hands-On Activities
- VEX & LEGO Challenges: Design, build, and code robots to navigate obstacle courses or compete in classroom games.
- Community Connections: Discover how robotics is used in our local community—from automated agriculture to local manufacturing plants. Students use our Fork Farm hydroponic grow system to grow all sorts of vegetables.
- The Maker Lab: Use high-precision laser cutters and 3D printers to design unique components that can’t be found in a standard kit.
Digital Design: Create 3D models of your robot designs before you ever pick up a tool.
Grades 10–12: Advanced Robotics & Aerospace Systems Integration * Doug Terrell and Greg Bynum
For Grades 10-12, the STEM Robotics program merges with our STEM Aerospace pathway. This allows students to apply their coding and automation knowledge to the most advanced machines humanity builds: robots, aircraft, and spacecraft.
The focus shifts to industrial-grade skills and real-world production. You’ll move from models to full-scale assembly and advanced robotics, earning the certifications and experience needed for a high-paying career in the agriculture, aerospace, and manufacturing industries.
What Students Learn
- Robotics & Automation: Explore how automated systems and robotics are used in modern aerospace manufacturing to increase precision.
- Advanced Machining & Welding: Master the operation of mills, lathes, and CNC equipment, alongside professional welding and plasma cutting.
- Aircraft Manufacturing: Learn the precision required to build a CubCrafters kit plane, focusing on structural integrity and fabrication.
- Electronics & Avionics: Understand the "brains" of the aircraft, including wiring, circuits, and electronic flight systems.
Hands-On Activities
- ABB Robotics: Apply your robotic skills and use the ABB industrial robot to solve real-world challenges.
- RC Plane and Drone Design: Design, build, and fly your own Remote Controlled (RC) aircraft and drones applying advanced aerodynamics and electronics.
- Full-Scale Fabrication: Work on real aircraft components using industrial-grade tools and techniques.
- Industrial Certifications: Earn your OSHA 10 safety credentials and industry-recognized welding certifications.
- Competitions: Compete in robotics, drone, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing competitions.
- Work-Based Learning: Take your skills into the real world through internships, industry tours, and registered apprenticeships with AJAC.
- College Credit: Earn college credits through our post-secondary partners while completing your graduation requirements through integrated labs and projects.
