Procedures for Inclement Weather - Snow Days

With winter weather soon approaching, the West Valley School District would like to remind you of our procedures for school closures and delays.  We will always try to keep schools open and on time.  However, school openings may be delayed or school may be closed for a day to ensure the safety of students and staff. 

The District’s Director of Transportation drives bus routes 3:30 am – 5:15 am.  If there are concerns, the Director calls the Superintendent to discuss.  The Superintendent makes the final decision regarding late start or school closure.  If there is a late start or school closure, the Superintendent will notify the press.  Families will be notified immediately via ParentSquare Alert.  Staff will be notified immediately via district email.

Whenever possible, the late start or school closure announcement will be made no later than 6:30 am on local radio and TV stations.  In addition, the announcement will be posted on the District’s website and the District’s information line.  Note that due to inclement weather, snow routes (alternate bus stops) may be used.

In the event that school must be closed for the day (Snow Day) there will be no remote learning requirement.  The day will not be counted as a school day.  Due to state requirements, the school day will need to be made-up.  Information regarding make-up days will be sent to families via ParentSquare.

The late start or closure announcement will apply for one day only.  If there is no announcement, then our schools will operate at the usual times.

There is no A.M. preschool when there is a 2 hour delay.

PARENTSQUARE:  The West Valley School District uses ParentSquare to communicate with families regarding school closures due to inclement weather.

Families are provided a ParentSquare account.  On the sign-in page, families can choose to receive notifications via text message, email, and/or app.
